E-Guitar (Work in Progress)

Skills Utilized:

  • Soldering
  • Woodworking
  • 3D Printing
  • Engineering Sketches

In winter 2023, I started building a custom electric guitar from scratch using particle board. This project is ongoing, and updates will be shared as progress continues:

Process So Far:

  • Shaping the Body:
Using a jigsaw, I cut the guitar body out of particle board. The body comprises two laminated boards bonded with wood glue. Small holes were drilled in specific areas to allow wiring to pass through. I sanded the edges with fine-grit sandpaper to ensure a smooth finish and avoid splinters.

  • Installing Pickups:
Humbucker pickups were mounted on the guitar body. These pickups reduce electrical noise and interference and ensure clean signal transmission from the strings.

Next Steps:

  1. Install the output jack onto the guitar body.
  2. Design and 3D print a cover for the cavity housing the controller.
  3. Mount the controller in the cavity and solder it to the output jack and humbucker pickups.
  4. Paint the guitar body with a red and white colour scheme.
  5. Attach the guitar strings and bridge plate.
  6. Conduct testing and make refinements as needed.
